Bratislava Castle
on a Rainy Day
Bratislava Castle really dominates the skyline night and day, with it’s red roof, and bright white walls. The castle in its current form dates back to the mid 1500’s It was a fairly cool and drizzly day when we visited, thankfully we were inside when the majority of the rain hit the area. The castle is a beautiful piece of architecture, that overlooks the Danube River, it would have been nice it it was a clear day, since I understand that you can see into Austria and Hungary from here
Church of St. Nikolai
Church of St. Nikolai, built on the site of a few of older churches, that were destroyed in order to protect the castle above. We did not know it until later that “In the temple of St. Nicholas, there is a piece of wood from the holy and life-giving Cross on which our Savior lsus Christos was crucified.” We felt very lucky that we were able to see the interior of the Church, since we found out that it is only open 10 to 20 days a year.
Other Day 2 Sights
We also enjoyed several other sights, including the Sculpture The Witch, from the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale “The Seven Ravens“. The beautiful St. Martin’s Cathedral, and UFO Bridge. Then there is the whimsical ČUMIL or “Man Working” statue, of a sewer worker resting in a manhole.
Tomorrow St. Martin’s Cathedral and The Freedom Gate.
